This incredible achievement makes Akuna the first African American male on record to complete the Triple Crown of Hiking. Additionally, as a veteran, Akuna has inspired thousands around the globe through sharing his story of utilizing thru-hiking as a way to manage his PTSD.
To celebrate the global diversity that exists on the trail, outdoor brand Merrell has launched their “One Day. One World. One Trail.” project. On Saturday, April 27, across 17 countries, Merrell sent 23 photographers and filmmakers out to the trail to showcase those experiencing natural spaces and how the trail unites us all.
“Bringing it Home” follows Tyrhee Moore, mountaineer, outdoor education advocate, and founder of Soul Trak, as he tells the story of his connection to the outdoors that was fostered at a young age. Born and raised in one of the toughest neighborhoods in South East Washington, D.C., Moore resides in the area still today and passionately dedicates his time to inspire and educate urban youth about the power and accessibility of the outdoors. Through City Kids Wilderness Project and his organization, Soul Trak, Moore is enhancing the lives of his community’s next generation by helping them discover local nature as well as some of the world’s more beautiful landscapes.

Little Steps features mountain athlete and Merrell Ambassador Mike Chambers as he endures a six-month, highly-strategic and rigorous training program to prepare for his attempt at breaking the speed record for Denali. Ultimately, Chambers leaves Denali without the record, but throughout his training and time on the mountain, reflects on life outside of physical goals and what’s most important: his family.
