Adventure-loving pupper wins coveted spot to represent outdoor brand after national search

ROCKFORD, Mich. (March 25, 2019)Merrell, the outdoor performance brand that provides all you really need to discover the simple yet profound power of the trail, is excited to announce Meadow the Border Collie as its very first dog ambassador. Meadow will be responsible for leading other dogs and humans to adventures on the trail and beyond. By number of votes, Meadow secured herself a top 10 spot alongside other canine hopefuls from across the country before announced as the grand prize winner on National Puppy Day, March 23.

Meadow and her owners, Autumn and Stephen Ruhl, are based north of Atlanta. Meadow is a two-year-old Border Collie that loves being out on the trail and drawing her family to outdoor adventure.

“When we saw that Merrell was looking for their first official dog ambassador, we knew Meadow would be perfect,” says Autumn Ruhl. “Meadow’s enthusiasm for the outdoors is something that everyone who meets her can see. We’re excited to have the opportunity to encourage others to adventure in the outdoors.”

Meadow’s favorite phrase is, “Do you want to go on a hike?” Whether it is the peaks along the Appalachian Trail, or the many waterfalls in the Southeast, she brings joy to everyone that she passes. She is always checking to make sure her humans are keeping up and encouraging them on with a smile, or a whine if they stop for too long.  At home, Meadow is preparing to be a therapy dog to little foster humans. She is excited to introduce these young humans to the outdoors and guide them on their first hikes and paddles where they can find some healing and peace in nature.

“Merrell exists to inspire people to discover the power of the trail, and we know our canine friends are often the catalyst to getting us out the door,” says Adam Koepfer, Marketing Manager at Merrell. “Meadow and her family embody the outdoor lifestyle we strive to inspire others to lead, and we’re thrilled to have them join us at Merrell.”

As Merrell’s Dog Ambassador, Meadow received $5,000 to donate to a non-profit of her choice.  Ruhl selected Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, whose mission is to improve the lives of animals, alleviate their suffering, and elevate their status in the community. Meadow also received a prize pack including Ruffwear gear, a one-year subscription to BarkBox, Camping with Dogs gear, a TurboPUP food pack and many new fans eagerly awaiting to see her tail-wagging adventures. Additionally, Ruhl received $1,000 of Merrell gear including hiking boots, apparel and accessories, and the nine runner-up dogs received a $100 gift card to BarkBox and a $200 gift card.
